Although it is still unclear if Florida’s governor intends to run, the CEO of Tesla, SpaceX, and now Twitter, Elon Musk, has replied in the positive, as to whether he would support Ron DeSantis in a 2024 presidential primary bid. This reply by Musk on Twitter, was followed by him stressing that the platform should be “fair to all.”
A relatively recent development, Musk now describes himself as a moderate Republican. In fact, Musk cast his ballot for the GOP, for the first time in the special election for Texas’ 34th congressional district in June. However, he also admitted to “reluctantly” backing Biden over Trump in 2020, telling followers that he was disappointed with the administration. Musk said-
“My preference for the 2024 presidency is someone sensible and centrist. I had hoped that would the case for the Biden administration, but have been disappointed so far.”

As the new CEO of Twitter, Musk has moved quickly to restore conservative accounts that have been banned. Especially after a recent poll of his followers on the topic, Musk announced an “amnesty” for all users who have previously been banned for violations other than “egregious spam.” or illegal activity. His poll on whether to restore former president Trump’s account, netted him millions of responses worldwide. Trump’s platform was restored soon thereafter.
In an earlier report by Breitbart News, it was stated that-
“Musk’s announcement comes shortly after he launched a poll asking Twitter users to vote on reinstatements for accounts that have not “broken the law or engaged in egregious spam.” 72 percent of those that answered the poll voted yes.”
“Musk tweeted: “The people have spoken. Amnesty begins next week. Vox Populi, Vox Dei,” using a Latin phrase that means “the voice of the people, the voice of God.” Musk used the same phrase after reinstating former President Donald Trump to the platform. Trump has said he will not be returning to Twitter but has not deleted his account.”

Musk’s is facing quite a challenge, over trying to restore free speech to Twitter. His efforts thus far, have led to a backlash from advertisers, with over a third of the platform’s major advertisers pulling out. Pointing regulators to the Apple and Google app stores, as potential mechanisms to restrain free speech, leftists, including Twitter’s former top censor, are anything but happy with Musk’s plans to implement an open forum platform on Twitter.
Also, at this point, it is not clear, just what kind of backing is implied in Musk’s “yes” response, in backing DeSantis, especially since there is a myriad of ways to support a candidate for office. Further, that DeSantis just won his re-election and is deliberately focused on his position as Florida’s governor, has him very busy at the moment. DeSantis is not declaring his plans one way of the other. Again, the jury is still out and America will have to wait to see what each of these men will commit to, for the presidential race in 2024.
