Dispute In Atlanta Provokes Gunfire With Multiple Teens Shot, Several Injured And One Dead

In the most recent shooting in Atlanta, this holiday season so far, on Saturday, according to FOX 5 News, gunshots erupted around 8 p.m. following a “dispute between a group of teenagers and young adults” near Atlantic Station, in Atlanta, Georgia. The shooting actually occurred after “a group of people were escorted off the property by Atlantic Station security and off-duty Atlanta officers.”

The group was said to have gone away from the station, to the 17th Street Bridge, where shots were heard. One person was reportedly killed, in the incident and five others were wounded. In his news briefing on the event, Atlanta Homicide Commander, Lt. Germaine Dearlove, said that he believes the ages of those involved in the dispute “ranged from 15 to 21”. He also indicated that “shots may have been fired from two separate groups.” The investigation is ongoing.

This is the most recent in a series of tragic events, that has seen youth involved in fatal shootings, so far this holiday season, in the city of Atlanta. That these teens have so little regard for life is shocking. Reportedly, just in the past week, there have been multiple teen related shootings, in and around the greater Atlanta area.

There is much that needs addressed, when teens feel that settling verbal disputes, needs to escalate without thought - to firing a weapon. Communication skills, along with wisdom during disagreements, needs to be a community wide focus it would seem, as the sheer numbers of teens involved, seems to be climbing. Tolerance and open-mindedness are the building blocks of discussion. Apparently, these teens have missed that lesson.

“It's an universal law-- intolerance is the first sign of an inadequate education. An ill-educated person behaves with arrogant impatience, whereas truly profound education breeds humility.”
