Manchin Kills Green New Deal Again: Schumer ‘Shellshocked’: Leftists Sob

On Thursday, when Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) refused to go forward with his party’s economic package, Democrats and climate activists were outraged. Manchin citied the economic package for its climate and energy programs, as well as its raising of taxes on wealthy Americans.

Just seven months ago, he killed President Joe Biden’s “Build Back Better” plan and the Democrats are again beside themselves. His refusal to “play ball” then was based on common sense economics as well. Apparently, the left can’t understand common sense.

After weeks of negotiations with Democrats, to craft a bill that he would support, Manchin’s decision to pull the plug, came after the latest inflation numbers and smacked again of common-sense economics. Apparently, the left doesn’t care about the consequences of future expenditures and how they will continue to impact the average American. A spokesperson for Manchin’s office explained-

“Political headlines are of no value to the millions of Americans struggling to afford groceries and gas as inflation soars to 9.1 percent,” said. “Senator Manchin believes it’s time for leaders to put political agendas aside, re-evaluate and adjust to the economic realities the country faces to avoid taking steps that add fuel to the inflation fire.” Adding “Senator Manchin has not walked away from the table,”

Democrats were optimistic they had reached a deal with Manchin, only to have their hopes dashed at the last minute. Thursday morning, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and his staff were left “shellshocked” after believing Manchin would deliver. Again, even his own party just doesn’t get it. They had all but poured the champagne.

Manchin’s rejection of the plan, shattered President Biden’s “ambitious climate agenda,”, which according to the New York Times, aimed to be “the largest single federal investment in American history toward addressing the toll of climate change.”

According to the Times, it will be impossible-

“without action by Congress, to meet Mr. Biden’s goal of cutting U.S. emissions roughly in half by the end of this decade,”… “That target was aimed at keeping the planet to stabilize the climate at about 1.5 degrees Celsius of warming compared to preindustrial levels.”

And

“Many were seething with anger at Mr. Manchin,” …“They criticized him as having strung negotiators along, while watering down a package that at one stage would have been sufficient to put a steep dent in emissions and also adding fossil fuel projects that cut against climate goals.”

– New York Times

The senior vice president for government affairs, at the League of Conservation Voters, Tiernan Sittenfeld, said there are no-

“words that are suitable for printing in The New York Times, for how appalled and outraged we are.”

Others who weighted in were, Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR) who told the Times that Manchin may have helped sabotage the-

“last chance to prevent the most catastrophic and costly effects of climate change.” Adding “We can’t come back in another decade and forestall hundreds of billions — if not trillions — in economic damage and undo the inevitable human toll,” Wyden told the outlet. “If we can’t move forward as we had hoped, we need to salvage as much of this package as possible. The expression that failure is not an option is overused, but failure really is not an option here.”

-Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR)

At the University of California Santa Barbara, Leah Stokes, a professor of environmental policy, reportedly “sobbed on Thursday night” when she learned of Manchin’s reversal, after she had put “months of work” into helping the Democrats craft climate legislation.

She said

“The stakes are so high,”…“It’s just infuriating that he is condemning our own children.”

America needs more common-sense representation, that is not hellbent on spending billions of dollars on a “theory”.

The whole establishment is listening to the likes of Ms. Stokes and her counterparts, which are promoting fearmongering that the radical left progressives cling to. Their efforts to bankrupt America are insatiable. People are struggling to just survive and the left is trying to bankroll, at tax-payers expense, a plan to save a planet that is far from demise. In fact, their climate change narrative doesn’t even hold water.

According to Marc Morano, in his book – “The Politically Incorrect Guide To Climate Change”, 2018 Regnery Publishing, calls “global warming” –

“something that is actually falsifiable: the climate establishment may hide and manipulate the evidence, as we have seen they do, but if the warming pauses or worse, if temperatures actually drop, that messes up the “global warming” narrative’, and any and all weather events, on the other hand: hotter weather, colder weather, wetter weather, drier weather, any kind of storm can be attributed now to “climate change” so now the media jumps on every heatwave, cold snap, hurricane, tornado, drought, flood, or other example of weather in the news to claim that the “unprecedented” weather is due to human activity. Blizzards and record cold temperatures, are now caused by global warming or what used to be “global warming” but is now “climate change” no matter what climate or weather event occurs, it seems that climate change predicted it.

“It is a thousand times better to have common sense without education than to have education without common sense.”

-Robert Green Ingersoll
