Thursday night, around 11:20PM, a man was shot dead, after allegedly entering a second story window of a Vancouver, Washington, home. According to a report by KPTV, the man entered through the window after breaking it, and was then confronted by the homeowner, who shot him. Police then arrived and found the suspect dead at the scene.
According to news sources, the would-be burglar tried repeatedly to enter the next-door-neighbors home, while they slept, by trying to open the front door. According to the owner, she went to the door and encountered a man who said he thought his mother lived there. He then attempted to gain entrance into the home, but the woman was able to push the door closed and lock it. Reportedly, a few moments later, she heard glass breaking at her neighbor’s home followed by gun shots.
Reportedly a very safe neighborhood – residents will be on guard now that homes have been targeted. Sadly, the incidence of crime, is on the rise all across the country, with inflation at a record high, costs soaring and people more desperate than usual. Further, it would seem that neighborhoods like this one, who are largely unsuspecting, are being targeted by thieves for that very reason.
With everything from camera recording exterior / interior lighting systems, state of the art security, and active neighborhood watch programs available, the average American needs to be cautious with their own safety and that of those in their household. While personal possessions can be replaced – life cannot be. The wise consumer needs to set up an offensive plan, to guard his home and property, while the criminal needs to consider the cost to him/herself, should he/she prefer tangible gain over staying alive.
