Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky has previously pleaded with President Biden to personally visit the capital city of Kyiv to show that he stands shoulder-to-shoulder with Ukraine as it struggles through its ongoing war and absorption by neighboring Russia. This is an understandable request of a US president and an ally.
Instead, Zelensky got an unannounced visit this past weekend by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and a full congressional delegation that included: Democratic Reps. Jim McGovern of Massachusetts who chairs the House Rules Committee; Jason Crow of Colorado; Barbara Lee of California; Gregory Meeks of New York who chairs the House Foreign Affairs Committee; Adam Schiff, of California who chairs the House Intelligence Committee; and Bill Keating of Massachusetts.
What Zelensky doesn’t realize is that Biden continues to steadfastly ignore his entreaties for him to make a personal appearance because Biden and or his White House aides are fearful he would most definitely embarrass himself, Zelensky and /or be a counterproductive asset in facing Russia. The simple truth, we here in the US have come to understand, is the fact that Joe Biden needs the security of a handler and a teleprompter to be functional at this point, due to his increasingly apparent cognitive issues. The WH knows that he cannot take the chance of going himself – too much is at stake. Gratefully, others were sent.
This congressional trip came after Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin journeyed there, last weekend.
As a show of major continuing support for the Ukraine struggle against Russia, Speaker Pelosi, second in line to the presidency after the vice president Kamala Harris, is the highest-ranking American leader to visit there since the start of the war back in February.
Pelosi put forth that President Zelensky had made it clear that the Ukraine needed more security, economic and humanitarian aid …“to address the devastating human toll taken on the Ukrainian people by (Russian President ) Putin’s diabolic invasion.”
Breitbart News quoted Pelosi as stating:
“Our delegation traveled to Kyiv to send an unmistakable and resounding message to the entire world: America stands firmly with Ukraine”, adding “We are here until victory is won.” and “Our delegation proudly delivered the message that additional American support is on the way”

Footage released by President Volodymyr Zelensky’s office showed Pelosi and other U.S. legislators in Kyiv where the speaker and Zelensky both thanked each other for their support in the war. Zelensky was quoted as having said:
“We’ll win and we’ll win together,”

America needs to continue to stand with these our allies in their war with Russia’s ongoing oppression of their people. Hopefully, the contingent of US dignitaries sent will continue to boost President Zelensky as well his people’s morale and resolve knowing that the United States, as a people, stand with them in this fight.
