Armed Citizen Foils Mass Shooting, Kills Indiana Mall Attacker

Killing an alleged attacker, who opened fire, in Greenwood Park Mall in Indianapolis, Indiana, an armed citizen stepped in to foil the would-be mass shooting on Sunday.

WDRB reported that:

“Three people were fatally shot and two were injured Sunday evening at an Indiana mall after a man with a rifle, opened fire in a food court and an armed civilian shot and killed him, police said. The man entered the Greenwood Park Mall with a rifle and several magazines of ammunition and began firing in the food court, Greenwood Police Department Chief Jim Ison said. A 22-year-old from nearby Bartholomew County who was legally carrying a firearm at the mall shot and killed the gunman, Ison said at a news conference.”

According to the Associated Press, four of those hit by gunfire were females and one was a male.

It was reported that police confiscated a suspicious backpack that was in a bathroom near the food court, where apparently the gunman, identified as an adult male, had spent time before opening fire on those in the food court.

Chief Ison said –

“The real hero of the day is the citizen that was lawfully carrying a firearm in that food court and was able to stop the shooter almost as soon as he began,"

- Greenwood Police Chief James Ison

The latest attack to unsettle Americans this year, this mass shooting follows a string of schools, grocery stores, churches, and a Fourth of July parade in Highland Park, Illinois, where innocent people lost their lives. These young men, who have supposedly perpetrated this string of killings, have lost their mental footing, living out their seeming rage without explanation, all while seeking personal affirmation and acknowledgement.

The unhealthy minds these persons demonstrate, through their actions is coming from sadly, somewhere deep inside. This string of assaults, have a mental component that really bears study. We need to check on the compass of America’s youth. That their cry for help, is at the end of a gun barrel is truly tragic. Thank God for the citizen who stepped in, to stop this!

One blogger made this comment-

“When seconds count, the police are minutes away. Thank God, Indiana enacted carry law on July 1st. How many more lives would be lost if this was a gun free zone?”
