According to police, a Nevada woman took away a carjacker’s gun in Las Vegas, tried to flee, then ended up shooting the carjacker dead when he tackled her from behind. The incident occurred November 19, 2022, but a police report was just released, providing details of the assault, according to Fox News.
Reportedly, the woman and a friend pulled up outside a residence, where there were to attend a Friendsgiving party, that was scheduled to occur. They happened to be early, so they sat in the car to wait for the party to start. As they were waiting, two men with guns, allegedly approached their vehicle.
At that point, one of the men grabbed the victims’ shirt, pulling her out of the car. Then the man reportedly got into her car and tried to start it, putting his gun down in his lap. Before she took off running, the woman grabbed his gun.
According to the police report, the suspect chased the woman and tackled her, at which point she shot the suspect in the head, fatally wounding him. Allegedly, the second carjacking suspect, opened fire on the woman, causing her to flee into a nearby backyard and hid. Police are considering this a case of self-defense.
Police report carjacking is on the rise across the U.S. according to a report by NewsNation from July of 2022. The reports states that carjacking’s are not well documented statistically, as they are often lumped into crimes like auto theft and so on, however those areas of the U.S. who do keep statistics are reporting an “uptick” in these crimes.
What is most disturbing, according to the NewsNation report, is the fact that these crimes are being boldly perpetrated, in broad daylight, at stop signs / stop lights, and in driveways in residential areas.
