An unprecedented investigation titled "Operation Whirlwind" has been launched by interim U.S. Attorney Ed Martin, targeting threats directed at DOGE workers and notably targeting Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY).
Reuters confirmed that Martin is probing threats reported by a Department of Government Efficiency employee that potentially involved Senator Schumer.
DOGE was initially established by President Donald Trump and has been responsible for significant workforce reductions across the federal government.
The name "Operation Whirlwind" links back to contentious comments made by Schumer in 2020 towards Supreme Court Justices Gorsuch and Kavanaugh.
Senator Schumer's office has promptly responded to inquiries about his involvement, indicating that his prior comments at a rally were of a political nature, not threatening.

He also noted that Schumer had not responded to his requests for an explanation regarding what Martin perceived as threats.
Schumer earlier clarified his comments, stating, "I should not have used the words I used yesterday. My point was that there would be political consequences," attempting to distance himself from any intent of real-world harm.
