Trump Unveils Key Nominees For Treasury And European Ambassadors

 January 3, 2025

President-elect Trump has disclosed a series of pivotal appointments for his upcoming administration, focusing on areas critical to fiscal policy and international diplomacy.

The Hill reported that among these appointments are key figures for the Treasury Department alongside new ambassadorial roles assigned for Spain and the Netherlands, all selected from distinguished career backgrounds.

Leading the treasury appointments, Ken Kies will be assuming the role of Assistant Secretary for Tax Policy. A veteran tax lawyer with nearly five decades of experience, Kies brings a deep understanding of tax legislation to the administration, having previously served as the Chief of Staff of the Joint Committee on Taxation in Congress.

Alexandra Preate has been appointed as Senior Counsel owing to her significant experience working with prominent economic advisors like Larry Kudlow, Dr. Arthur B. Laffer, and Stephen Moore.

Trump highlighted her expertise, stating, "Preate has worked closely with former Director of the National Economic Council, Larry Kudlow, as well as my long-time economic advisors."

Introducing the Lineup of New Treasury Leaders

Hunter McMaster will take on the role of Director of Policy Planning, bringing fresh ideas and strategies to the department.

Following closely, Daniel Katz steps in as Chief of Staff. His background as a senior fellow at the conservative think-tank, the Manhattan Institute, and previous tenure at the Department of the Treasury, equips him well for this pivotal role.

Two deputies will be supporting Katz in his efforts. Samantha Schwab, who previously served in Trump's first term and is the granddaughter of billionaire Charles Schwab, along with Cora Alvi, who acted as the national deputy finance director during Trump's presidential campaign, are appointed to provide their expertise and insight.

On the international front, Benjamin Leon Jr., a prominent Cuban-American businessman, has been nominated as the ambassador to Spain. His strong support for the Trump campaign, exemplified by his substantial donations to Trump-supporting PACs, played a significant role in his nomination.

Joe Popolo Jr. will serve as the new U.S. ambassador to the Netherlands. Popolo, founder and CEO of Charles & Potomac Capital LLC, is known for his transformative leadership over two decades at the Freeman Company, culminating in its status as a top global live event brand experience company.

Trump praised Popolo, noting, "Joe is a successful businessman and philanthropist across many different sectors. For over 20 years, he helped transform the Freeman Company."

Revamping Economic Policies with New Appointments

The selection of these individuals underscores Trump’s strategy of infusing his administration with accomplished professionals rooted in business success and conservative economic ideologies. His focus remains on individuals who have demonstrated loyalty and effectiveness in both the public and private sectors.

Trump's approach to these appointments also reflects a broader aim to fortify relations and enhance America's economic and diplomatic stance abroad, particularly with key European nations. The nominees are expected to bring a mix of traditional and innovative methods to their respective roles.

Concluding his announcement, Trump expressed his confidence in the appointed individuals, labeling them as "incredible, hardworking Patriots, who will work tirelessly to, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN." His statement encapsulates his vision of governance that leverages personal achievement and dedicated service to the nation’s advantage.

The appointments are pending confirmation, and they signal a clear direction toward enhancing economic policy and strengthening diplomatic ties as the new administration prepares to take office.
