ABC News reported that Trump’s visit underscored ongoing delays in Boeing’s delivery of the new presidential aircraft amid negotiations to reduce costs and modify its design. During his previous term, Trump boasted of slashing the upgrade project's costs significantly. “For about four weeks, by my saying, I’m not going to do it, I got the price reduced by $1.6 billion for the same plane, other than we had a nicer paint job if you want to know the truth, but for the same plane,” Trump commented.
The former president had engaged with Boeing assertively to bring down the price of the aircraft, claiming a $1 billion reduction. The scrutiny over these fiscal measures was further highlighted during Trump’s inspection at the airport.
New details emerged as Trump spoke about a redesigned exterior for Air Force One. During a 2024 online discussion with Elon Musk, he revealed preferences for shifting the color scheme from the traditional light blue to a darker shade.
