Speaker Johnson delays Epstein document vote until after recess

 July 23, 2025

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) just dropped a bombshell that’s got everyone talking about the Jeffrey Epstein case yet again.

Breitbart reported that Johnson has confirmed that there won’t be a vote on releasing documents tied to the Epstein scandal before Congress heads out for its lengthy August recess.

Last week, the House Rules Committee pushed forward a measure to address these controversial files, setting the stage for what many hoped would be a swift resolution.

But with the House gearing up to take a break on Thursday, Johnson’s announcement at the Capitol on Monday threw cold water on those expectations. It’s a classic Washington move—delay and deflect when the heat is on.

Johnson Backs Trump on Transparency Push

Johnson’s reasoning? He’s all about giving the Trump administration room to maneuver on releasing what he calls “credible files” related to Epstein.

“Here’s what I would say about the Epstein files: There is no daylight between the House Republicans, the House, and the president on maximum transparency,” Johnson stated. Well, that’s a nice sentiment, but some might argue transparency doesn’t mean much if the public is left waiting while Congress vacations.

Johnson doubled down, suggesting that further action from Congress might not even be needed right now. “My belief is we need the administration to have the space to do what it is doing,” he added. If that sounds like passing the buck, it’s because it just might be.

Meanwhile, President Donald Trump isn’t mincing words on the issue, taking to Truth Social to demand the release of “all pertinent grand jury testimony.”

“This SCAM, perpetuated by Democrats, should end, right now!” Trump blasted online. It’s a fiery call to action, though skeptics might wonder if labeling it a scam oversimplifies a deeply complex and troubling case.

Trump’s push for openness isn’t just hot air—Attorney General Pam Bondi confirmed she’s ready to act fast. “President Trump—we are ready to move the court tomorrow to unseal the grand jury transcripts,” Bondi affirmed. That’s the kind of urgency conservatives want to see, even if the timing remains frustratingly out of sync.

DOJ and FBI Weigh In on Epstein

On the other side of the debate, the Department of Justice and the FBI have released a memo that pours cold water on some of the wilder Epstein theories.

Their investigation concluded there’s no evidence of a so-called client list, and they stand by the finding that Epstein’s death was a suicide. It’s a stance that’s sure to rile up those who see conspiracies around every corner.

Trump, however, isn’t backing down from defending Bondi’s handling of the situation, even as some on the right grumble about her approach.

“She’s handled it very well, and it’s going to be up to her,” Trump noted, praising her judgment on what files are credible for release. It’s a vote of confidence, though one wonders if the critics will be satisfied with anything less than every scrap of paper.

For many conservatives, this delay feels like another instance of government dragging its feet on issues that matter to the public.

The Epstein case has long been a lightning rod, symbolizing elite corruption and secrecy in the eyes of those fed up with establishment games. Johnson’s decision, while perhaps pragmatic, risks fueling the narrative that Washington prioritizes politics over accountability.

Still, there’s a case to be made for patience if it means getting the process right. Trump and Johnson’s shared commitment to transparency is a promising sign for those who believe the truth—whatever it may be—must come out. The question is whether the public’s trust can hold out through yet another congressional recess.
