Rep. Jim Himes (D) Connecticut - Acknowledges It's “Clear” Hunter Biden Broke The Law

 July 30, 2023

On Friday, during an interview Democratic congressman admitted that it's "clear" Hunter Biden broke the law. This is especially true in light of the fact that he was to plead guilty to the charges brought, in exchange for a “sweat-heart” deal he was promised.

Connecticut Congressman Jim Himes, seeming to project his ire at Republicans, Friday night before acknowledging the first son’s legal troubles, said that Hunter Biden “should be held accountable”. During the interview Himes said on MSNBC-

"Let me say something that you never heard a Republican member of Congress say in the four years of the Trump administration, which is that if Hunter Biden broke the law, he should be prosecuted,"… "And it is clear that he broke the law with respect to taxes and possibly the ownership of a handgun. He should be held accountable for that."

"If he traded on his father’s influence, he should be held accountable for that. And I’m emphasizing this because you never, ever heard a Republican say the same thing about Donald Trump or his family,"

Himes was referring to the fact that Hunter, who is still under federal investigation, pled not guilty to two misdemeanor tax counts of willful failure to pay federal income tax on Wednesday. He was set to plead guilty as part of a deal that fell through. Reportedly, the deal collapsed when the Judge discovered plainly that there was an ongoing federal investigation that might make the current plea bargain unconstitutional.

Last week Wednesday, in a Fox News report, it was noted that Hunter Biden’s plea deal fell apart during his Delaware court appearance-

“Ultimately, Hunter Biden pleaded not guilty because [Judge] Noreika could not accept the plea deal as it was constructed. She repeatedly expressed her concerns about the constitutionality of the diversion deal related to the felony gun charge, specifying that the main issue with the agreement was that if Hunter Biden breached the deal, the judge would need to make a finding of fact on the matter before the government could bring charges.”

“Judge Noreika said she saw that as being "outside of my lane," noting that if the diversion agreement might be unconstitutional, then the entire plea deal would be unconstitutional, meaning that Hunter Biden would not be getting the immunity he thought.”

Himes clearly criticized Republicans for not speaking out against former President Donald Trump when he was indicted, but also acknowledged that Hunter Biden should be held accountable if he used his father’s influence to commit crimes.

Arguing that there was no evidence that President Biden colluded with his son on any crimes, the Democratic congressman insinuated that any evidence should be taken seriously if it arises. Himes said-

"Now, to the question about impeachment, there is today zero evidence, zero evidence that Joe Biden, the president of the United States, knew about what his son was doing. If, if he did know about it, if he participated in that, then that is a very different conversation,"

The White House has continued to state that President Biden is supporting his son throughout the investigation. WH Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre had previously said-

"Hunter Biden is a private citizen, and this was a personal matter for him. As we have said, the president, the first lady — they love their son and they support him as he continues to rebuild his life,". "This case was handled independently, as all of you know, by the Justice Department under the leadership of a prosecutor appointed by the former president, President Trump."
