NYC Democrat Councilman Backs Trump Border Czar's Tough Stance On Sanctuary Cities

 November 26, 2024

New York City Councilman Robert Holden supports tough actions against sanctuary cities, backing measures to prosecute city leaders under federal law.

Breitbart reported that in a recent televised interview on Fox News Channel's "Fox & Friends," New York City Councilman Robert Holden voiced his endorsement of incoming Border Czar Tom Homan.

Holden praised Homan for his strong stance against sanctuary jurisdictions that protect illegal immigrants, particularly those involved in criminal activities.

Homan, who appeared on Fox News the week before Holden, expressed his intent to hold mayors and governors accountable if they continue to provide sanctuary to illegal immigrants.

This move by Homan highlights a growing frustration among some officials towards cities and states that refuse to cooperate with federal immigration laws.

Holden Critiques Sanctuary City Policies

During his appearance, Holden criticized the policy of sanctuary cities that shield illegal immigrants from federal enforcement, particularly those who have committed crimes.

He argued that these policies are not just irresponsible but felonious, as they involve actively protecting individuals known to have broken the law.

"Sanctuary city laws are by definition a violation of our federal statutes," Holden explained. He stressed the severity of the violation, emphasizing that harboring such individuals is a felony under federal laws.

His stern view reflects a wider sentiment among some politicians who believe that tougher actions are necessary to uphold the law.

Holden's concern is that by defying federal requirements, these jurisdictions endanger the security of their communities. He underscored the potential felony charges that could be leveraged against governors and mayors who willfully violate these statutes.

According to Holden, the consequences for sanctuary cities could be significant. "The governors — Democratic governors and the mayors of these sanctuary cities are shielding criminals and terrorists," he stated on the program, expressing his dismay at the ongoing disregard for federal regulations.

He further pointed out that the President has the authority to press charges against non-compliant leaders, implying that President-Elect Donald Trump could use his executive power to enforce federal law. Holden believes this could be a pivotal move to coerce sanctuary cities into compliance.

"… So, the President, could say to the governor and the mayor, cooperate with us, or we’re going to charge you with felonies," Holden elaborated. This statement outlines a possible federal response to enforce immigration laws and penalize those who obstruct them.

Border Czar's Strategy and Councilman's Support

Councilman Holden's remarks reflect a broader debate on how the United States handles immigration and the autonomy of cities and states in determining their policing strategies.

Tom Homan’s upcoming role as Border Czar might usher in a new era of stringent enforcement and significant challenges for sanctuary jurisdictions.

Holden’s pointed commentary signaled a call for more drastic measures against the leaders of sanctuary cities. By highlighting the illegal aspects of such policies, he is advocating for a shift towards stronger enforcement and accountability at the federal level.

The ongoing discussion involves complex legal and ethical questions about the balance between local authority and federal mandates.

Holden’s support for Homan indicates a strong push from some factions for the federal government to take decisive steps to address what they view as a significant loophole in national security.
