After a conversation with Kennedy in December, Hawley disclosed Kennedy’s assurances about his commitment to reinstating pro-life policies implemented during the Trump administration, including pivotal ones like the Mexico City Policy, which prevent U.S. aid from funding non-governmental organizations that perform or promote abortions overseas.
Despite this communication, the leaders of Advancing American Freedom, Tim Chapman and Marc Short, maintain a stance of skepticism. They argue that Kennedy’s past positions and statements offer little assurance that he will adhere firmly to pro-life directives at the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).
Chapman and Short emphasized the divergence between Kennedy's history on abortion and the policies of the Trump administration, which they consider to have a robust pro-life record.
"While RFK Jr. has made certain overtures to pro-life leaders that he would be mindful of their concerns at HHS, there is little reason for confidence at this time," they stated.
