Former Governor Mike Huckabee stated that President-elect Donald Trump doesn’t need a pardon from Joe Biden, asserting the law is in Trump's favor.
The Washington Examiner reported that following the recent pardon of Hunter Biden by President Joe Biden for various federal offenses, a contentious discussion emerged about whether President-elect Donald Trump should also receive a pardon.
Former Sen. Joe Manchin suggested that Biden should pardon Trump, which led to a division within the Democratic Party. However, former Governor Mike Huckabee, speaking on Newsmax News In-Depth, countered this recommendation, urging Trump to resist seeking such a pardon.
Trump's legal battles have attracted considerable public and political scrutiny. He faces state charges in New York even though the federal charges against him have largely been resolved.
Huckabee emphasized that these continuing state charges do not necessitate intervention from Biden, as Trump should fight them on legal grounds.
Trump’s legal victories and challenges span numerous cases and jurisdictions. Notably, less than three weeks after defeating Vice President Kamala Harris in the recent elections, the charges levied against him related to the events of January 6, 2021, and the mishandling of classified documents were dismissed by Special Prosecutor Jack Smith.
Nevertheless, the state-level legal confrontations in New York persist. Trump, who has pleaded not guilty to all his trials, was convicted on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records.
Despite this, the sentencing led by Judge Juan Merchan has been indefinitely postponed. This delay offers Trump an opportunity to seek further legal recourse to challenge the convictions.
Shifting focus to Georgia, a battle over presidential immunity is unfolding. Trump’s lawyers have advocated for the dismissal of an election interference case, leaning on a Supreme Court ruling regarding presidential immunity. This legal maneuver demonstrates Trump’s aggressive strategy to clear his name across various legal platforms.
The controversy further deepened with the conviction of Hunter Biden, President Biden’s son, on multiple counts including lying about drug use on a federal form, unlawful possession of a firearm, and tax offenses.
This conviction brought additional scrutiny to the Biden family and heightened debates about legal accountability and presidential pardons.
During his appearance on Newsmax, Huckabee articulated his staunch defense of Trump’s position. He stated, "doesn’t need Joe Biden’s help" and highlighted that the state charges in New York remain the only significant challenge, with federal charges being almost entirely dropped.
"But the fact is, the state charges in New York are the ones that are still being held. It’s not the federal charges. Those are all pretty much dropped," Huckabee explained.
His remarks underscore a belief in Trump's eventual victory. "So I wish that they would all be dropped because they’re all nonsense. But I think President Trump’s got to continue to fight them and get them dismissed on appeal. He doesn’t need Joe Biden’s help to do that. I think the law is on his side, and he will ultimately prevail," Huckabee confidently added.
The suggestion by Manchin and the subsequent rebuttal by Huckabee reveal underlying tensions and ideological splits within and between the parties.
The decision or refusal of a Biden pardon for Trump could have long-lasting implications on the political landscape and public trust in the legal system.
