Josh Hawley demands special investigation into FBI spying on GOP lawmakers under Biden administration

 October 9, 2025

Senator Josh Hawley, R-Mo., has thrust the spotlight on allegations of deep state corruption within the Biden administration’s FBI, accusing the agency of politically motivated spying on Republican U.S. senators and conservative groups in a scandal dubbed “Arctic Frost.”

Reports of this controversy first emerged through whistleblowers who, according to Hawley, risked much to reveal what the FBI allegedly tried to conceal. Their courage brought to light claims that the agency targeted eight Republican senators with wiretaps.

Breitbart reported that the accusations don’t stop at senators. The FBI is also alleged to have zeroed in on 92 conservative organizations, including Charlie Kirk’s Turning Point USA, simply for their right-leaning views. If true, this paints a troubling picture of federal agencies weaponizing their authority against ideological opponents.

Details of the alleged spying on Hawley himself are particularly unsettling, with claims that the FBI accessed incoming and outgoing calls, location data, call durations, and metadata from his phone.

The full scope of what was gathered remains unclear, leaving room for speculation about just how deep this intrusion went. It’s hard not to wonder if privacy is just a quaint relic in today’s Washington.

According to the allegations, these actions kicked off in 2023 under the direction of Jack Smith, with Hawley asserting they were driven by political motives. This timeline suggests a deliberate campaign, not a random misstep. One might quip that the only thing frostier than the Arctic is the Biden administration’s apparent regard for constitutional boundaries.

Political Targeting or Paranoia?

Hawley has framed this as nothing less than a broad assault on the Republican Party, with former President Donald Trump as the primary target.

He contends the spying was a dragnet meant to ensnare anyone linked to Trump or opposing President Joe Biden. It’s a claim that, if substantiated, could shake public trust in federal institutions to its core.

Beyond individual senators, Hawley points to actions like the raid on Mar-a-Lago as evidence of a broader pattern of using government agencies as political tools.

He argues this isn’t just about one man but about crushing dissent across an entire political spectrum. That’s a heavy accusation, but one that demands answers rather than dismissal.

“They were able to get the list of incoming calls, outgoing calls, my location, when the calls were received, the duration of the calls, as well as metadata associated with the phone, and Jesse, that’s just what we know about for sure,” Hawley said on Fox News Channel’s “Jesse Watters Primetime.”

“The truth is, we don’t know the extent of their information gathering,” Hawley continued. “We don’t know what they did with it.” His words underscore a frustrating opacity that only fuels suspicion about the FBI’s true intentions.

Hawley isn’t content to let this sit unanswered, and frankly, who could blame him? He’s calling for a special prosecutor to dig into what he describes as pervasive rot within the FBI and the Department of Justice. It’s a bold demand, but one that seems warranted if even half of these allegations hold water.

“Well, what needs to happen is we need a special prosecutor who’s going to go at this hard,” Hawley insisted on “Jesse Watters Primetime.”

He’s pushing for public hearings and prosecutions, naming figures like Jack Smith, Merrick Garland, and Christopher Wray as individuals who must face scrutiny. It’s a gauntlet thrown down with precision, not recklessness.

Restoring Trust in Government

The senator’s vision for accountability includes exposing every individual involved in this alleged misconduct.

If the FBI and DOJ have indeed been turned into political weapons, as Hawley claims, then sunlight might be the only disinfectant strong enough for the job. Let’s hope it’s not just a mirage in a desert of bureaucracy.

These allegations, if proven, could have far-reaching implications for how Americans view the impartiality of their government. It’s not just about Republican senators or conservative groups—it’s about whether federal power can be trusted to serve the public, not a partisan agenda. That’s a question worth wrestling with, no matter where one stands politically.

In the end, Hawley’s call for a special prosecutor and public hearings might be the only way to separate fact from fervor in the “Arctic Frost” scandal.

While skepticism of government overreach is healthy, so is the need for concrete evidence before rendering judgment. Let’s hope this investigation, if it happens, brings clarity to a story that’s already chilling enough.
