John Ramsey, Father Of Jon Benet Ramsey, Claims Colorado Police Were Waiting For Him To Die To Close Daughter's Murder Case

 June 4, 2024

John Ramsey, the father of JonBenet Ramsey, alleges that his continuous challenges to the Boulder Police Department have led to the police simply waiting for him to die instead of working to solve the infamous 1996 murder.

John is advocating for advanced DNA testing and greater FBI involvement in hopes of resolving the case. Fox News reported that he claims that he was told that Boulder Police have already given up on the case and are waiting for him to die.

John Ramsey's daughter, JonBenet, was tragically found dead in their family home in Boulder, Colorado on December 26, 1996. She had been brutally beaten and strangled.

Early on, suspicion fell on John and his wife Patsy, although they were never charged. Recent developments reveal John’s frustrations over the perceived stagnation in the investigation by local police.

John Ramsey Advocates for Independent DNA Testing

John has publicly voiced his concerns about the handling of his daughter's case, particularly regarding the DNA evidence.

At a recent CrimeCon event, he highlighted that several key items collected during the investigation, including the garrote used to strangle JonBenet and a handwritten ransom note, may never have been fully analyzed for DNA. “As far as we know, these items have never been tested. They were taken from the piece of evidence and we want them tested by an independent lab for DNA sampling. To my knowledge, that's never happened,” he shared at the conference.

We heard a disturbing claim from John Ramsey regarding the Boulder Police Department’s alleged attitude towards the unsolved case. John stated that a police department member had hoped for his demise to avoid further inquiries. He described this attitude as not only revolting but also reflective of previous interactions.

“Not only have we communicated with the Ramsey family that we have never stopped working to solve this horrible crime and bring justice to JonBenet, but I also regularly communicate with John to give updates or progress reports and answer questions he has, and this has never come up,” Interim Boulder Police Chief Stephen Redfearn countered the claims made by John Ramsey.

In addition to pushing for forensic advancements, John Ramsey has sought legal reforms. He promoted the Homicide Victims' Families' Rights Act at the state level, hoping it would bolster rights and resources for families like his own.

Adding to his advocacy, he confirmed his son, John Andrew Ramsey’s commitment to pursuing justice for his sister, echoing a family dedication to their cause.

Governor Jared Polis also expressed his optimism regarding the progress of forensic technologies, asserting that the perpetrator of this heinous crime would eventually be caught.

Boulder Police confirmed that while DNA testing had been done, advancements in the science would continue to play a crucial role in their ongoing investigative efforts.

Renewed Focus on DNA Evidence

Recent updates from BPD revealed steps taken to modernize the case's handling, such as digitizing all evidence into a searchable database, with a focus on meticulous DNA analysis. The department also enlisted the Colorado Cold Case Review Team in 2022 to refine its investigative strategies.

John Ramsey remains steadfast despite obstacles: “I'm not going to die. Well, I'm going to be around for a good while.” His statement underscores a resolute optimism and determination to see the case through.

As John Ramsey fights for justice, deep-rooted issues in case management and investigative approaches are brought to light, underlining the persistent, complex struggle of families seeking closure in unsolved cases.
