On Monday, the Democrats’ January 6 Committee, concluded its “investigation” by asking the Department of Justice (DOJ) to prosecute former President Donald Trump, though the committee lacks constitutional authority to do so.
And though the January 6 congressional committee, should have been organized for a legislative purpose, not as part of a law enforcement action or any political arm, which is a function of the executive branch under the separation of power in the Constitution, they are now poised to request of the Biden administrations DOJ, to prosecute Trump for what it says are multiple crimes. This is all happening as its’ final act, just before a Republican-led House takes over in January.
Calling for a minimum of three criminal charges against Trump, during an appearance Sunday on CNN’s State of the Union, committee member Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), discussed but would not confirm the committees plans. Schiff who lied to the public about his own role in a “whistleblower” complaint that led to Trump’s first impeachment, misled the public about evidence of “Russia collusion,” made up a phony “transcript” of Trump’s phone call with Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky, and spied on fellow members of Congress during the impeachment investigation has no room to talk. He is the epitome of the “pot calling the kettle black”.
This is the kind of bold “insurrection, obstruction of an official proceeding, and conspiracy to defraud the federal government,” that the committee now is charging Trump with. The psychological term for this behavior is projection. Schiff has literally done everything that he and the others accuse Trump of doing. This is not about justice being blind, but rather about justice being shackled and muted.
The last of these supposed charges refers to the Trump campaign’s effort, to prepare an alternative slate of electors, in case the courts invalidated the Electoral College votes in disputed states. Schiff also said the committee would consider ethics referrals for members of Congress who defied subpoenas to testify.
This entire committee show, which bombed at the box office apparently, has been one of a power posturing, hate attack on Trump which members of the committee freely demonstrated, namely former Rep. Liz Cheney (R) WY, who’s opening remarks on the committee included the statement that Trump “is not fit for any office”. Formerly censured by her own party, in the state of Wyoming, Cheney lost her seat in the recent 2022 elections.
Composed of members, hand-picked by Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, who, in an unprecedented move, denied the minority party the right to choose its own representation on the committee, essentially made this group a “stacked deck of players”. According to critics, that invalidated the committee’s subpoena power, under its enabling resolution. For the record, in cooperation the DOJ prosecuted two Trump aides, for contempt of Congress anyway, despite legal challenges to the subpoenas.
Schiff, fixated on his own standards, current power and self-aggrandized importance, saw no irony in accusing the former president of trying to overthrow the government when he himself had tried to overturn Trump’s administration, through the “Russia collusion” hoax and a failed impeachment. Both are examples of his attempt to “defraud the government.” He has true blinders on in relation to himself, his own lies, corruption and misdeeds.
Justice however was served because neither of the two Republicans chosen by Pelosi for the committee, was reelected to Congress, one Democrat, Rep. Elaine Luria (D-VA), was defeated in November by her Republican opponent and one Democrat retired. This committee, together with its “hearings” has been however, treated by the general media as legitimate, despite the fact that they offered no representation to the other side of the argument and were scripted “show trials” requiring TelePrompTers. This was clearly a one-sided “trial” where no one for the defense was heard.
Closed door depositions also kept the truth of what was said from the public, enabling the committee to pursue their agenda of entrapping Trump in any way possible. Reportedly, even their closing statements are written in the form of the closing arguments in a formal trial.
This unprecedented attempt to target the political opposition, for doing what several members of the committee itself had done together with this request to the DOJ, comes nearly two years after the Senate failed to convict Trump on similar charges, especially after evidence that he told a rally crowd to protest “peacefully and patriotically”, was discovered.
This January 6 committee – has no problem twisting the facts they share with the American people, encouraging the truth to be buried and running roughshod over anyone who gets in their way. This is because they have bought into their own version of reality. These persons believe what they purport and will stop at nothing to see it acted upon. The following quote says it all.
