Monday evening, Bennie Thompson (D-MS), chair of the January 6 Committee, said there would be no criminal referrals of former President Donald Trump or anyone else to the Department of Justice (DOJ). Not wanting to lose the public opportunity, Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) promptly disagreed.
One of two anti-Trump Republicans, hand-picked by Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) to serve on the committee, Cheney, in a Tweet fired back:
“The January 6th Select Committee has not issued a conclusion regarding potential criminal referrals. We will announce a decision on that at an appropriate time.”

Several former Trump aides, were referred by the committee for contempt of Congress, and the full U.S. House has voted for several contempt referrals, two of which have led to prosecutions.
Many in the establishment media, as well as Democrats, have been pressing the committee to provide a basis for the DOJ to charge Trump as well. The DOJ is reportedly using transcripts from the committee’s behind-closed-doors depositions in criminal investigations and the absence of a criminal referral does not mean the DOJ will not prosecute Trump or his aides – the actual outcome remains to be seen.
Obviously, there is a feud between Thompson and Cheney which indicates here are finally opposing voices represented on the committee. Additionally, Cheney reportedly has used her position on this committee as a political weapon against her political opponent in the upcoming primary, Harriet Hageman.
Left with the fact that her political career as an establishment Republican took a nosedive into oblivion, when she sided with the Democrats in their January 6 witch hunt, Cheney has a lot to overcome especially in light of the fact that she has angered her constituency at home.
With the Wyoming primary set for August, Cheney stands to lose her House seat, running 28 polling points behind Hagerman, who is endorsed by former President Trump.
On Hageman’s election web site – It clearly states that Cheney is complicit in J6 Committee calls to silence Wyoming’s voice because radical democrats have pressed the subject of the electoral college in discussions. The site states:
“Radical Democrats on the January 6th Committee are openly talking about abolishing the Electoral College, which would silence the voices of Wyomingites and allow large, liberal population centers to dictate the election of future presidents. As Nancy Pelosi’s hand-picked “Republican” on the committee, Rep. Liz Cheney is complicit in these plans to disenfranchise Wyoming voters after months of leading and supporting the actions of the illegitimate body.”

Harriet Hageman, the Republican candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives in Wyoming, issued her own statement:
“The Electoral College ensures that states with lower population still have a voice in electing the president. If the Electoral College were abolished, presidential elections would be decided by liberal voters in California and New York, leaving states like Wyoming voiceless and disenfranchised.” and “This is the reality that Liz Cheney has created by entering into a partnership with the radical Democrats on the January 6th Committee. The Democrats have always been using the committee as a political campaign weapon, and their true goal is unchecked, never ending power. Cheney has pursued her own personal war on President Trump while the Democrats have used her to try to legitimize their illegitimate witch hunt and power grab. Liz Cheney has now gone beyond her failure to represent Wyoming's interests and is now complicit in Democrat plans to permanently silence the people of Wyoming.”

Needless to say, Liz Cheney is in deep trouble here.
Bedside being trounced in the polls, and apparently faced with losing to Hagman – she is now losing any real grip in the committee which is chaired by Thompson. She has literally stepped in it.
At a recent rally for Hageman in late May, Former President Trump referred to Cheney as a-
“backstabbing” (RINO), adding “Worse than the terrible Democrats are the backstabbing RINO Republicans that are helping them do their act,” Trump said. “And there is no RINO in America who has thrown in her lot with the radical left more than Liz Cheney.” Adding that Cheney is a “lapdog for Pelosi and a human soundbite machine for CNN and MSDNC.” Continuing “She has gone crazy,” … “Now I get it. I’ve been hearing these stories for years. Now I get it. She’s gone totally crazy.”

However, when asked if January 6th should be an election issue, one anonymous Democrat in a swing district simply said, “No,” although that particular Democrat hoped the hearings would provide “a lot of powerful information” or a “holy shit” moment. Apparently according to Bennie Thompson’s above statement that won’t be happening either.
