House approves Trump's "Gulf of America" renaming plan

 May 10, 2025

President Donald Trump’s vision to rebrand the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America just cleared a major hurdle. The GOP-led House, in a razor-thin 211-206 vote, passed the “Gulf of America Act” on Thursday, proving that bold ideas can still cut through Washington’s swampy inertia.

The Daily Wire reported that the bill, spearheaded by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga..., mandates that all federal laws, maps, and documents swap out “Gulf of Mexico” for “Gulf of America.”

It now heads to the Senate, where it’ll face a tougher crowd of globalist naysayers. In 180 days, if passed, every federal agency must scrub the old name like it’s a bad memory.

Trump’s been pushing this since before his second term kicked off. On Inauguration Day, he signed an executive order directing the Interior Department to rename the U.S. Continental Shelf area as the Gulf of America. The man doesn’t just talk; he delivers faster than a SpaceX launch.

Trump’s Vision Takes Flight

While jetting to the Super Bowl in New Orleans on Feb. 9, Trump upped the ante. “We’re flying right over it right now, so we thought this would be appropriate,” he said, signing a proclamation for “Gulf of America Day.” Leave it to Trump to make a splash bigger than the game itself.

Interior Secretary Doug Burgum didn’t waste time, confirming his department was already executing Trump’s orders. “Another big win for President Trump’s agenda to Make America Great Again,” Burgum declared. That’s the kind of can-do attitude missing from the left’s endless whining.

Greene, the bill’s firebrand sponsor, framed it as a tribute to American grit. “This recognizes the entrepreneurs supporting the Gulf’s economy and the service men and women who protect its waters,” she said. Contrast that with Democrats clutching pearls over a name that’s been around since Spain ran the show.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., called the bill “small-minded, silly, and sycophantic.” Sounds like the usual elitist tantrum from someone who’d rather grovel to internationalists than salute the Stars and Stripes. His side’s obsession with “sensitivity” over sovereignty is why they keep losing.

Greene didn’t hold back, torching Democrats for their meltdown. “They’d rather honor a foreign country run by drug cartels than stand up for the American people,” she snapped. Ouch—truth hurts, and Greene’s got the receipts.

Only one Republican, Rep. Don Bacon, R-Neb., broke ranks, calling the bill “sophomoric.” Bacon thinks pandering to Mexico’s feelings is more mature than backing Trump’s America-first agenda. Good luck explaining that to his base.

Mexico’s President Pushes Back

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum wasn’t thrilled, insisting, “For us it is still the Gulf of Mexico.” She can call it whatever she wants, south of the border, but America’s not taking notes from a country struggling with cartels. Sovereignty means naming our waters, thank you very much.

The bill tasks the Secretary of the Interior with overseeing the renaming through the Board on Geographic Names. This isn’t some bureaucratic sideshow; it’s a deliberate move to cement Trump’s legacy. The process is already rolling, thanks to his earlier executive actions.

Every federal map, law, and regulation will soon reflect the Gulf of America, assuming the Senate doesn’t cave to woke pressure. Agencies have six months post-enactment to comply, a tight timeline that screams urgency. No room for foot-dragging here.

Democrats’ outrage over this rename is peak hypocrisy. They’ll cheer when statues come down or streets get new names to appease the perpetually offended, but cry foul when America asserts its identity. Actions have consequences, and this vote shows who’s serious about putting America first.

The Gulf of America Act is more than a name swap; it’s a statement. It honors the fishermen, oil workers, and military heroes who make the Gulf a powerhouse, not some diplomatic consolation prize. Greene’s right: this is about codifying Trump’s vision into law.
