Fellow Democrats Turn On Dianne Feinstein, Calling For Her To Resign From Senate

 April 14, 2023

Apparently because Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., 89, has been forgetful, has had physical limitations related to illness, (Dems believe) she is no longer aggressive enough for the party and / or is holding up Biden’s lower court nominations – her Democratic colleagues want to push her out of office earlier than her stated intention not to run at the end of her term. Her Democratic colleagues are openly beginning to turn on her, indicating that they obviously want her out of the way.

One by one they seem eager to call for her resignation, from the Senate. Despite the fact that she is one of their own, her “out loud” opposition is starting to grow from within the party's ranks. Sadly, they are using phrases like “concerns over health, ability to perform duties, memory concerns” for a woman who has served in the Senate for 30 years.

However, Biden who has, at a minimum, the latter of these two phrases but appears to be an ongoing party standard and Sen. John Fetterman (D) PA has been openly accepted, at a much younger age, post stroke, with all three. The clear double standard here and relative push to get Feinstein out of the way is sickening. One does not have to agree with her politics to feel sorry for the cannibalistic approach of her fellow Democrats.

Feinstein, had previously faced calls to resign prior to announcing her retirement.  Last month, she was hospitalized for shingles and has faced other health issues. These include reports related to her mental fitness. An example was that shorty after announcing she was not going to run again for re-election she appeared to be unaware of her own retirement, when speaking with reporters. Shortly after, she also appeared to not remember her vote on a judicial nominee, in the moment.

In a statement Feinstein, said she asked Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer to have 'another Democratic senator' serve in her place 'temporarily'. Then a spokesperson for Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, issued a statement on the matter Wednesday night.

"Per Sen. Feinstein’s wishes, Majority Leader Schumer will ask the Senate next week to allow another Democratic Senator to temporarily serve on the Judiciary Committee,"

House Democrats, openly expressed their wishes for Feinstein to resign, on Twitter Wednesday. They alluded to concerns over her health and ability to perform her duties as a senator. This is all despite the fact that she announced her intention, not to run for re-election earlier this year. Her California colleague Rep. Ro Khanna,. tweeted -

"It’s time for [Feinstein] to resign. We need to put the country ahead of personal loyalty,"… "While she has had a lifetime of public service, it is obvious she can no longer fulfill her duties. Not speaking out undermines our credibility as elected representatives of the people."

-Rep. Ro Khanna, D-Calif.

Then Rep. Dean Phillips, D-Minn, tweeted that he agreed with Khanna, and called on others to speak out as well saying-

"Senator Feinstein is a remarkable American whose contributions to our country are immeasurable. But I believe it’s now a dereliction of duty to remain in the Senate and a dereliction of duty for those who agree to remain quiet,"

-Rep. Dean Phillips, D-Minn

Jon Lovett, a former Obama administration staffer, earlier this week, also called on Feinstein to resign, arguing she "should no longer be in the Senate" because of her health problems, and noting her absence was holding up President Biden's judicial nominations. He said Feinstein should resign to help the Senate on his podcast "Pod Save America." He stated-

"There’s been a lot of reporting about Dianne Feinstein no longer being fit to serve in the Senate representing the biggest state in this country. She’s currently out for shingles. That is sad. That is obviously not her fault, but because she is not in the Judiciary Committee, Durbin has said that it has made it basically impossible to move a lot of these lower court nominees to the Senate for a vote," …adding… "Which means that Dianne Feinstein who should not be in the Senate is now preventing us from being able to confirm judges."

-Jon Lovett, Former Barack Obama Speechwriter

Feinstein's office, in a comment to Fox News, concerning her return to work and health status, but making no mention of her colleagues Khanna and Phillips, noted that she had requested Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer to have "another Democratic senator" serve temporarily in her stead. Feinstein said-

"When I was first diagnosed with shingles, I expected to return by the end of the March work period. Unfortunately, my return to Washington has been delayed due to continued complications related to my diagnosis," adding… "I intend to return as soon as possible once my medical team advises that it’s safe for me to travel. In the meantime, I remain committed to the job and will continue to work from home in San Francisco," and "I understand that my absence could delay the important work of the Judiciary Committee, so I’ve asked Leader Schumer to ask the Senate to allow another Democratic senator to temporarily serve until I’m able to resume my committee work,"

- Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif

Arguably, Feinstein has been struggling, but to openly and publicly call for her to step down (immediately) when they have Biden embarrassing himself and the U.S., all over the planet, and Sen. Fetterman struggling in absentia without challenge is truly sad. That her Democratic colleagues have no seeming patience with her – is very telling. Their objective is to replace her with someone that can be more active in achieving their own goals at the present time. True, functional is important but who are they attacking while others in the party get an obvious free pass.
