Elon Musk calls on Trump to release Epstein files

 July 14, 2025

Has President Trump’s promise to unveil the Jeffrey Epstein files hit a brick wall, or is this just another political smoke screen?

The Hill reported that Trump recently defended Attorney General Pam Bondi against criticism from some of his supporters regarding the handling of the Epstein case, while Elon Musk has sharply criticized the inaction, pointing to government-held evidence with no charges filed against alleged perpetrators.

Let’s rewind to Saturday, when Trump took to Truth Social to stand by Bondi amid growing frustration from segments of his MAGA base.

Some supporters are livid, believing Bondi has access to a supposed client list tied to Epstein’s notorious activities. Trump, however, dismissed the uproar as a distraction.

Trump’s Defense of Bondi Sparks Debate

“LET PAM BONDI DO HER JOB — SHE’S GREAT!” Trump declared on Truth Social. Well, that’s a bold vote of confidence, but it’s hard not to wonder if waving off the Epstein controversy as irrelevant risks alienating the very base he’s rallying.

Trump didn’t stop there, posting a lengthy message to his followers. He urged unity within the MAGA movement, calling Bondi’s work fantastic and decrying “selfish people” for targeting his administration over Epstein. Is this a call for loyalty or a sidestep from a messy issue?

In the same post, Trump suggested the Epstein files might be a fabrication by political opponents. He accused past adversaries of crafting these documents to undermine him, much like other hoaxes he’s faced. That’s a serious charge, but without evidence, it sounds more like deflection than revelation.

Enter Elon Musk, who isn’t buying the dismissive tone. Reacting to a post labeling the Epstein saga as Trump’s weak spot, Musk called out the president for promising to release the files during his campaign only to downplay them now. That’s a sharp jab from someone often seen as an ally.

“This is a very big deal,” Musk exclaimed. He’s right to question why, if the government holds videos of alleged abusers, no one faces charges—especially when thousands of children may have suffered. It’s a glaring gap that demands answers, not excuses.

Musk’s frustration echoes a broader sentiment among some conservatives who feel transparency has been sidelined.

The Epstein case, with its dark implications of elite misconduct, isn’t just a scandal—it’s a test of whether justice applies to the powerful. Will this administration rise to that challenge?

Justice Department Memo Adds Layers

Complicating matters, the Justice Department released a memo on Monday addressing the Epstein narrative. It concluded there’s no evidence Epstein maintained a blackmail list of high-profile clients. That might cool some conspiracy theories, but it hardly quells the demand for accountability.

The same memo also found no foul play in Epstein’s 2019 death, previously ruled a suicide. While this aligns with earlier findings, it does little to silence skeptics who see every detail of this case as shrouded in doubt. Transparency, not just reports, is the only remedy here.

Trump, meanwhile, doubled down on Truth Social, questioning why his critics obsess over Epstein. “For years, it’s Epstein, over and over again,” he wrote, implying the focus plays into his opponents’ hands. But isn’t ignoring the issue just as risky for his credibility with supporters?

Trump also pointed fingers at past administrations, asking why they never released the Epstein files if they were so damning.

“If there was ANYTHING in there that could have hurt the MAGA Movement, why didn’t they use it?” he challenged. It’s a fair question, but it sidesteps the core issue of whether his own team will deliver on past pledges.

The outrage from parts of Trump’s base isn’t hard to understand, especially after Bondi hinted at having key documents ready for review.

When promises of action turn into shrugs, trust takes a hit. This isn’t about disloyalty—it’s about holding leaders to their word.
