According to a Chattanooga Police Department spokesperson, the crash happened on Interstate 75 south around 8:15 a.m., after the front vehicle in DeSantis' four-car motorcade slowed down suddenly to avoid traffic in front of them, which caused the pile-up. It has not yet been released, who was driving the vehicles. Reportedly, a female staff member suffered minor injuries and was later treated at a campaign event.

Traffic camera video, from the Tennessee Department of Transportation Smartway Cameras, captured the crash site, with police and other EMS first responders at the scene of the incident. Though gratefully, an unharmed DeSantis continued on to the next campaign stop, an investigation remains ongoing.

“Safety is a continuing journey, not a final destination”.
