According to Fox News, Thursday night, The U.S. Capitol Police arrested a group of staffers from CBS’s, Late Show with Stephen Colbert for allegedly trespassing in the U.S. Capitol.
Charged with illegal entry into the House office buildings after hours, the group of Colbert staffers was arrested in the Capitol’s Longworth House Office Building. Also, these individuals were reportedly escorted out of the January 6 Committee hearing earlier on Thursday for not having proper press credentials. That is unlawful behavior twice.
In a statement to Fox News, U.S. Capitol Police explained:
“On June 16, 2022, at approximately 8:30 p.m., U.S. Capitol Police (USCP) received a call for a disturbance in the Longworth House Office Building. Responding officers observed seven individuals, unescorted and without Congressional ID, in a sixth-floor hallway. The building was closed to visitors, and these individuals were determined to be a part of a group that had been directed by the USCP to leave the building earlier in the day. They were charged with Unlawful Entry. This is an active criminal investigation, and may result in additional criminal charges after consultation with the U.S. Attorney.”
The trespassers reportedly included: Robert Smigel, Jake Plunkett, Stephen Romond, Nicoletta Green, Brendan Hurley, Allison Martinez, Tyrone Dean, Josh Comers, and David Feldman. While there, reportedly the group took photos and videos near the offices of Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) and House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA). Jesse Watters of Fox News, reported that Colbert staffers gained entrance into House office building by Reps. Adam Schiff (D-CA) and Jake Auchincloss (D-MA).
This is the kind of lawlessness that they have basically crucified the peaceful participants of the January 6th event for. These lawmakers not only know better but have a lot to answer for. Where is the Rule of Law?
Schiff should be forced at this point, because of this blatant disregard for Capitol security, to resign from his post on the January 6 Committee. Additionally, many on Capitol Hill want to see Colbert’s staffers arrested and charged with the same crimes as those who entered the Capitol on January 6. The rule of law should be the same for both.

America will see what becomes of Colberts’ staff – will they be treated the same as those of the January 6th Capitol breech or will they avoid charges and incarceration with preferential treatment? Stay tuned.
