Citing Poll Numbers, Trump Says He Will “Not Be Doing the Debates”

 August 22, 2023

On Sunday, former President Donald Trump declared that he will “not be doing the debates” because of his very strong poll numbers, that place him far above his opponents. Citing a recent CBS poll, that apparently had him 46 points ahead of Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.

Trump had discussed a recent interview, the fact that he that he has no desire to step onto the debate stage with people polling at one or two percent. He reportedly said-

“I don’t know that I should be doing it, to be up against a hostile network with hostile people that are polling at zero. I mean, they don’t have any votes. One of them had actually a zero with an arrow pointing left. I’m trying to figure out what that means. It probably means they have too many votes, you know, like the election. But they’re at 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, maybe—and I’m in the 60s. I see a poll the other day … I’m at 78, and you have people at zero,”

His new more definitive post on his Truth Social account, is where Trump made his decision known. He

Posted-

“New CBS POLL, just out, has me leading the field by ‘legendary’ numbers. TRUMP 62%, 46 Points above DeSanctimonious (who is crashing like an ailing bird!), Ramaswamy 7%, Pence 5%, Scott 3%, Haley 2%, Sloppy Chris Christie 2%, ‘Aida’ Hutchinson 1%,” …

“The public knows who I am & what a successful Presidency I had, with Energy Independence, Strong Borders & Military, Biggest EVER Tax & Regulation Cuts, No Inflation, Strongest Economy in History, & much more. I WILL THEREFORE NOT BE DOING THE DEBATES!” he added.

The poll to which Trump referred was the CBS News/YouGov poll that gave the former president the biggest lead over his primary opponents. This is amid the string of indictments related to the 2020 election. Trumps polling numbers continue to steadily rise, despite the charges leveled against him.

According to a report by Breitbart-

“Former President Donald Trump posted his biggest lead yet over his rivals at 62 percent of likely Republican primary voters, according to a CBS News/YouGov poll published Sunday… “His top rival, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, has fallen farther back from earlier this summer, the poll showed, to 16 percent. The other candidates are in the single digits, with third runner-up Vivek Ramaswamy at seven percent.”

It would seem that true to form, former president Donald Trump has his own mind set, whether to appear on the national stage at this time or not. Though he will not be attending, he reportedly is sending a group of “surrogates” there to represent and speak for him should the need arise.

According to NBC News, those include Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), Matt Gaetz (R-FL), Byron Donalds (R-FL), and former gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake. These conservatives will be joined by Donald Trump Jr. and Kimberly Guilfoyle, who reportedly will attend the debate to conduct media interviews for the Trump team.

Whether at the debate or no, Trumps’ presence will be largely felt, even as the whirlpool of events continue to surround him, giving life to those debaters on stage, who will likely seize the moment to debate Trump, though he is not in the room. Either way, the debate should declare where these other candidates are on where they see America going.

Will they share who they are as opposed to Trump, or deliberately deal with the America that Biden and his administration are slowly creating – thanks to the progressive left? Time will tell to be sure, and America will be watching and listening.

“A true leader has the confidence to stand alone, the courage to make tough decisions, and the compassion to listen to the needs of others.”
