President Joe Biden Vows To Veto Bill To Abolish The IRS After Ridiculing The Republican Party

 January 18, 2023

On Monday, President Joe Biden ridiculed the Republican Party for proposing a bill that would end the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and income taxes. Referring to Republicans, Biden said-

“They’re fiscally demented, I think,”

-President Joe Biden

At a breakfast speech for Martin Luther King Jr. Day, hosted by Al Sharpton’s National Action Network, the president spoke about Republican economic proposals. He went on to raise concerns about the Republican plan, that would end the IRS and income taxes in favor of what is called the “Fair Tax” which would create a National Sales Tax administered by the states. Biden as vowed to veto any of the Republican proposals, to cut funding to the IRS, or end the IRS.

Biden claimed-

“They want to raise taxes on the middle class by taxing thousands of everyday items from groceries, gasoline, clothing, and cutting taxes for the wealthiest, because they want to supplant the money lost from taxes on the millionaires and billionaires with a sales tax on virtually everything in the country,” adding still… “You know, all these new IRS agents we have is because they fired a lot of them, and a lot are retiring,” and finally “Let me be clear: If any of these bills happen to reach my desk, I will veto them,”  - “Any of them.”

-President Joe Biden

Rep. Buddy Carter (R-GA), introduced The Fair Tax Act, which explained it as a way to ease the tax burden on Americans. Carter said in a statement-

“Instead of adding 87,000 new agents to weaponize the IRS against small business owners and middle America, this bill will eliminate the need for the department entirely by simplifying the tax code with provisions that work for the American people and encourage growth and innovation,”

It remains to be seen if the Democrat-led Senate would pass the bill, even if it passed the House. It might also meet with a stroke of Biden’s pen, should Congress actually take this proposed act seriously. Anything that smacks of a lack of control however – ruins most Democrats day, and is sure to face a flaming end.

In his expressed chagrin, Biden argued that the IRS needed the additional agents to help hold millionaires and billionaires accountable. That’s almost laughable, because most of Congress, if not already worth millions when they come in, are worth millions when they leave – if they ever do. Maybe Congress should hold a workshop day and invite the IRS to review their own personal taxes. Then “we the people” could see how really “easy” it would be.

“To argue with a man who has renounced the use and authority of reason, and whose philosophy consists in holding humanity in contempt, is like administering medicine to the dead, or endeavoring to convert an atheist by scripture.”
