Benjamin Netanyahu Scheduled For Surgery Following UTI Linked To Prostate Issue

 December 29, 2024

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will undergo surgery for prostate removal this coming Sunday after a diagnosis of a urinary tract infection attributable to prostate enlargement according to Fox News.

This surgical intervention comes amidst Netanyahu's ongoing participation in Israel's Middle Eastern defense efforts and his engagement in a corruption trial.

Last week, it was revealed that Netanyahu, 75, was diagnosed with a urinary tract infection, a common condition often influenced by an enlarged prostate, a non-cancerous increase in the size of the prostate gland.

This health issue has led to the upcoming surgical procedure intended to remove the prostate, as announced by his office.

Prime Minister's Health Dictates Surgical Measures

The surgery is acutely scheduled for Sunday, with arrangements for Netanyahu's temporary incapacity set. Despite his health concerns, Netanyahu has continued to oversee Israel's strategic operations, especially pertinent given the country's current engagement with Houthi rebels in Yemen.

Amidst this personal health crisis, operations under Netanyahu's government have not seen a halt. This week, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) performed multiple airstrikes targeting Houthi rebel locations in Yemen.

The IDF expressed that these strategic strikes were aimed at reducing the threat to Israel posed by the Houthi regime, particularly focusing on the disruption of military infrastructures at pivotal locations like Sana’a International Airport and several key power stations and ports on the western coast of Yemen.

The IDF released a statement last Thursday detailing its operations, highlighting the severe threat posed by the Houthi rebels.

According to the IDF, these military actions are necessary responses to over a year of aggressive behavior from the Houthis, including attacks on Israeli territory and attempts to blockade Israeli shipping in the Red Sea.

Public attention was drawn to these tensions recently when the oil tanker Sounion was attacked in the Red Sea by the Houthis on September 14, 2024. The incident marked a significant escalation in the conflict, underscoring the threat to both Israeli and international maritime assets.

A Parallel Battle in Court: Netanyahu's Corruption Trial

In addition to his health issues and defense responsibilities, Netanyahu is also deeply involved in a legal battle within his country. He is facing charges in a corruption trial where he is accused of providing regulatory favors in exchange for positive press coverage.

This trial, which began in 2020, has seen Netanyahu actively participating, with his testimony commencing earlier in December.

The legal proceedings have been extensive, featuring about 140 witnesses, including figures such as former prime ministers, security chiefs, and known media personalities. Once expected to call 300 witnesses, the trial highlights the entrenched nature of the allegations against Netanyahu.

Despite these significant personal and national challenges, Netanyahu has maintained an active leadership role. Recently, he convened a critical meeting at Mount Hermon with top Israeli defense and security officials.

Attendees included Defense Minister Israel Katz, Chief of Staff Lt. Col. Herzi Halevi, Northern Command Commander Major General Uri Gordin, and Shin Bet Chief Ronen Bar.

This meeting underscored the gravity of the situation Israel faces and Netanyahu's commitment to national security, even as he prepares for his medical leave due to the upcoming surgery. The agenda of the meeting was centered around strategic responses to the ongoing threats along Israel's borders and beyond.
