Doctor sentenced to prison for supplying Ketamine to Matthew Perry

 December 5, 2025

A Los Angeles courtroom delivered a sobering verdict Wednesday, pulling back the curtain on a heartbreaking chapter in the life and death of "Friends" star Matthew Perry.

Dr. Salvador Plasencia, 43, received a sentence of over two years in prison for illegally selling ketamine to Perry, who died from an overdose in 2023, the Daily Caller reported.

The judge also tacked on two years of probation, holding Plasencia accountable as one of five individuals charged in connection with the actor’s untimely passing. This case shines a harsh light on the dangers of exploiting vulnerability for profit.

Profit Over Patient Well-Being

Judge Sherilyn Peace Garnett didn’t hold back, telling Plasencia, “You exploited Mr. Perry’s addiction for your own profit.” Her words cut through the courtroom, exposing a doctor who prioritized greed over ethics.

She further condemned his actions, stating, “You and others helped Mr. Perry on the road to such an ending by continuing to feed his ketamine addiction.” This isn’t just a personal failing; it’s a betrayal of the very oath to do no harm.

Plasencia admitted to four counts of ketamine distribution back in July, fully aware of Perry’s struggles with addiction. Court filings even revealed texts where he called Perry a “moron” ripe for exploitation, a chilling glimpse into his mindset.

A Star’s Struggle Exploited

Perry, beloved for his wit and warmth on screen, battled addiction openly, seeking ketamine legally as a treatment for depression. When his regular doctor refused to up the dosage, he turned to Plasencia, who saw an opportunity rather than a patient.

This wasn’t a one-off mistake but a calculated move by a physician who knew the risks. Plasencia’s decision to sell the drug illegally fed a cycle of dependency that ended in tragedy.

The actor’s family bore witness to the sentencing, with Perry’s mother and two half-sisters offering raw, emotional statements. “The world mourns my brother,” said Madeleine Morrison, reminding everyone of the man who became “everyone’s favorite friend.”

A System Failing the Vulnerable

Plasencia’s mother wept as he was handcuffed and led away, a human moment amid a grim proceeding. Yet, sympathy for his family can’t erase the damage done to Perry’s loved ones or the precedent this sets.

He surrendered his medical license as part of the fallout, a fitting consequence for abusing his authority. Still, one wonders why safeguards weren’t in place to catch such predatory behavior sooner.

Four other defendants, also tied to Perry’s death, have pleaded guilty and await their own sentencing hearings in the coming months. Their outcomes will likely echo the same question: who’s protecting those already fighting their demons?

Lessons From a Lost Icon

This sentencing isn’t just about one doctor or one star; it’s a wake-up call about how addiction is handled in a culture quick to medicate pain. Perry’s story reveals a broken trust between patient and provider, exploited by those meant to heal.

We can’t bring back the laughter he gave millions, but we can demand accountability from a medical system that too often looks the other way. If progressive policies push for unchecked access to powerful drugs without oversight, cases like this will multiply.

Let’s honor Perry by advocating for real protections, not just hollow promises, for the vulnerable. His legacy deserves a fight against the profiteers who turn suffering into a payday.
