Somali brothers confess to massive taxpayer fraud in Minnesota

 November 28, 2025

Another case of taxpayer money vanishing into thin air has surfaced in Minnesota.

Breitbart reported that in a stunning admission, two Somali brothers, Anwar Adow and Asad Ahmed Adow, have pleaded guilty to siphoning nearly $4 million from Minnesota’s Housing Stabilization Services program through their respective companies.

This isn’t just a petty scam; it’s a calculated heist that exploited a system meant to help the vulnerable, leaving taxpayers footing the bill for services that were never even rendered.

Asad Ahmed Adow, through his company Leo Human Services LLC, billed the state for a whopping $2.7 million in nonexistent services, according to prosecutors.

Not to be outdone, his brother Anwar Adow admitted to defrauding the program of over $1.2 million via Liberty Plus LLC, with his guilty plea finalized in October.

That’s right—while hardworking Minnesotans struggle to make ends meet, these two saw a crisis as a cash cow, milking public funds with zero remorse.

Federal Court Slams Fraudulent Schemes

Federal Judge Nancy Brasel didn’t mince words when addressing the betrayal of public trust in cases like this.

“It is so disappointing and so disheartening that where others saw a crisis and rushed to help, you saw money and rushed to steal,” Brasel stated during proceedings.

Her words cut to the core—when safety nets are shredded by greed, it’s the most vulnerable who suffer, and that’s a tragedy no amount of progressive spin can gloss over.

The timing of the brothers’ guilty pleas couldn’t be more telling, coming just before the sentencing in a separate, massive fraud case tied to the Feeding Our Future program.

In that unrelated scandal, over 70 Somali migrants were charged with misappropriating $250 million in state funds meant to feed needy children, with Abdimajid Mohamed Nur, 24, sentenced to 10 years in prison this week for his role.

While these are distinct cases, the pattern of exploiting public programs for personal gain is hard to ignore, and it’s no wonder trust in these systems is eroding faster than a sandcastle at high tide.

ICE Steps Up Oversight in Minnesota

Adding fuel to the fire, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and U.S. Border Patrol have signaled a renewed focus on several Somali communities in Minnesota in response to recurring welfare fraud cases.

This isn’t about pointing fingers at entire groups—it’s about ensuring accountability when public funds are repeatedly diverted from their purpose, a stance even the most bleeding-heart policymaker should support.

After all, when nearly $4 million vanishes from housing aid and $250 million disappears from children’s meals, it’s not just numbers on a ledger; it’s real people left out in the cold, and that’s the kind of injustice no amount of bureaucratic red tape can justify.
