Former transgender state representative admits guilt in child exploitation case

 November 10, 2025

Stacie-Marie Laughton, once celebrated as a trailblazer in New Hampshire politics, has just pleaded guilty to federal child sex abuse charges in a Boston courtroom.

Fox News reported that Laughton, the first openly transgender lawmaker elected to a state legislature in U.S. history, admitted to the sexual exploitation of children through disturbing materials.

Laughton made history in 2012 by winning a seat in the New Hampshire House of Representatives, marking a milestone for representation that many on the progressive side cheered.

But that victory was quickly overshadowed by legal troubles, including past felony convictions for credit card fraud, leading her to step back from serving. It was a sign of storms ahead, though few could have predicted just how dark they’d get.

A Historic Election Marred by Controversy

By 2014, Laughton tried to reenter the political arena, only to be blocked by the New Hampshire Ballot Law Commission due to a lingering suspended sentence.

Persistence paid off in 2020, when she secured a seat representing Nashua’s Ward 3 in the state House. Yet, even as she served, whispers of personal and legal entanglements never quite faded.

Fast forward to 2022, and Laughton’s tenure ended with a resignation following an arrest tied to a stalking incident. That alone raised eyebrows, but it was merely the tip of a much grimmer iceberg.

The real horror emerged when federal investigators uncovered Laughton’s alleged involvement in a child exploitation scheme, a betrayal of trust that cuts against every value conservatives hold dear about protecting the vulnerable. This wasn’t just a personal failing—it’s a gut punch to the very idea of public service.

Authorities revealed that Laughton, identified with feminine pronouns in reports, collaborated with her ex-girlfriend, Lindsay Groves, a former employee at Creative Minds daycare in Tyngsboro, Massachusetts. Groves allegedly snapped nude photos of children under 5—four images in total, per a 2022 affidavit—and sent them to Laughton.

While Laughton was still serving as a state representative in 2022, these vile exchanges reportedly took place, tainting any notion of her as a role model. Thousands of text messages between the pair, as documented by investigators, painted a chilling picture.

In those texts, according to the affidavit, Laughton expressed a desire to engage in sexual acts with the children—a detail that turns the stomach and demands accountability, not excuses.

Progressive narratives about personal freedom can’t paper over this kind of moral collapse. It’s a stark reminder that character matters in leadership, no matter one’s identity or historic “firsts.”

Text Messages Reveal Shocking Intentions

While some might argue Laughton’s political achievements should stand apart from personal failings, conservatives know better: Public trust isn’t a buffet where you pick and choose what counts. The exploitation of children at a daycare—where innocence should be sacred—isn’t a footnote; it’s the headline.

Let’s be clear, though—this isn’t about piling on for the sake of outrage or targeting someone for their identity. It’s about recognizing that actions have consequences, especially when they harm the defenseless, and no amount of cultural relativism can justify such behavior.

Unfortunately, no direct statements from Laughton or others involved are available in the public record provided, leaving us to grapple with the cold, hard facts alone. Still, the silence speaks volumes—where’s the defense for exploiting children? There isn’t one, and there shouldn’t be.

Laughton’s place in history as a pioneering figure—preceded only by Althea Garrison, who came out as transgender shortly after her 1992 election in Massachusetts—can’t be erased.

But neither can the gravity of these crimes, which strike at the heart of what society must protect. Conservatives aren’t here to tear down individuals but to uphold standards that keep communities safe.
