Federal agents clash with leftists rioters in Portland despite court ruling

 October 7, 2025

Portland, Oregon, just became the latest battleground in the clash between federal authority and local unrest, as agents in tactical gear descended on protesters with tear gas and arrests mere minutes after a judge slapped down a National Guard deployment.

Fox News reported that late Sunday, chaos gripped the streets of Portland as federal agents, acting on orders from President Donald Trump to quell violent leftist riots tied to Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations.

Before the dust—or rather, the tear gas—could settle, U.S. District Judge Karin Immergut issued an emergency restraining order, declaring Trump’s bid to send California’s National Guard, or any out-of-state troops, into Oregon unlawful and unconstitutional.

But did that stop the feds? Not for a second—video footage shows dozens of Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Border Patrol personnel in full tactical gear detaining violent leftists amid choking clouds of red tear gas.

Over a hundred demonstrators gathered outside a building under the cover of night, chanting defiantly and facing off against lines of armed federal agents who barked orders to “stop advancing.”

Some protesters, equipped with gas masks or respirators, held their ground, while others shouted profanities—hardly a recipe for de-escalation in a city already on edge.

Tear Gas and Takdowns Shock Portland

The footage gets grimmer: one protester was carried off by their arms and legs by federal agents, while another, trying to escape, was tackled and pinned to the pavement like a scene from a bad action movie.

Yet another demonstrator attempted to kick a smoking gas canister back toward the agents—bold, if not exactly wise—before being swiftly subdued.

As tensions boiled over, federal personnel eventually retreated into a nearby building, with protesters advancing, cheering, and shouting in a momentary show of defiance.

The White House, predictably, isn’t backing down. “The facts haven’t changed: President Trump exercised his lawful authority to protect federal assets and personnel in Portland following violent riots and attacks on law enforcement,” said spokeswoman Abigail Jackson. But let’s be real—when tear gas is the answer to chants, you’ve got to wonder if the cure is worse than the disease.

On the flip side, the Pentagon confirmed Monday that no Oregon National Guard members are currently deployed in or near Portland, despite some federalized troops remaining under a specific readiness status.

That’s cold comfort to those on the ground, who saw federal agents act with lightning speed post-ruling, as if a judge’s gavel is just a suggestion when progressive unrest is on the menu.

Court Ruling Clashes With Federal Priorities

Judge Immergut’s order didn’t just block California’s National Guard—it put a hard stop to any out-of-state Guard troops setting foot in Oregon, a direct challenge to the administration’s strategy.

While conservatives might argue that federal property and personnel deserve robust protection, there’s a fine line between order and overreach, and Portland’s tear-gassed streets suggest we’ve crossed it.

At the end of the day, this showdown isn’t just about one city—it’s a microcosm of a nation wrestling with how far federal power should stretch when local tensions flare, especially under the guise of countering a progressive agenda run amok.
