Democrat Rep. Haley Stevens wants to impeach HHS Secretary Kennedy

 September 26, 2025

Rep. Haley Stevens, a Democrat from Michigan, is gunning for Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. with articles of impeachment over what she calls a health care disaster.

Breitbart reported that Stevens is accusing Kennedy of unleashing “health care chaos” with reckless budget cuts and soaring costs, while broader Democratic opposition to the administration’s health policies—including controversial advisories and leadership shakeups—fuels the fire.

Let’s rewind a bit to understand this showdown. Stevens has long been critical of Kennedy, previously demanding his resignation over slashes to pediatric cancer and vaccine research funding.

It’s no secret she’s got her eye on a Michigan Senate seat in 2026, so this move could be as much about political theater as principle.

Stevens’ Past Sparks Hypocrisy Questions

Now, Stevens isn’t exactly a stranger to controversy herself. Back during the pandemic, she made waves with a House floor speech in pink latex gloves—only to be repeatedly ruled out of order.

Then, in 2021, she and other Michigan Democrats, including Attorney General Dana Nessel, were spotted maskless at her wedding reception despite pushing strict COVID rules for everyone else.

Democratic pushback against the current administration’s health guidance is loud, yet it’s hard not to notice their selective memory about adhering to Biden-era mandates. The irony isn’t lost on those who value consistency over convenience.

Meanwhile, Kennedy’s tenure at HHS has stirred up a hornet’s nest. Over 1,000 current and former HHS employees signed a letter demanding he step down, accusing him of jeopardizing public health and undermining the CDC after firing Director Susan Monarez.

At a recent Senate oversight hearing, Kennedy denied political motives, claiming his actions aim to rebuild trust in health decisions.

Kennedy isn’t backing down, folks. He’s doubled down with his mantra to “make America healthy again,” framing his reforms as essential despite the backlash. That’s a bold stance when Senate Democrats like Peter Welch of Vermont are calling him a “lunatic.”

Sen. Jon Ossoff of Georgia didn’t hold back either, slamming Kennedy’s leadership as “gross mismanagement.” Then there’s Sen. Raphael Warnock, also from Georgia, labeling him the “biggest threat” to American health. These are strong words, but are they grounded in policy disagreement or just partisan noise?

Adding fuel to the fire, Western state governors have formed the West Coast Health Alliance to push back against what they call “nonsense” from Kennedy’s office.

Hawaii Gov. Josh Green even warned that “children will die” without robust vaccination programs. That’s a dire prediction, but it sidesteps whether Kennedy’s policies directly cause such outcomes.

Acetaminophen Advisory Ignites Controversy

One of the administration’s latest moves has sparked a particularly heated debate. President Donald Trump, Kennedy, and CMS Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz jointly warned pregnant women to limit acetaminophen use due to a “very increased risk” of autism.

The FDA is even moving forward with label changes to note possible neurodevelopmental risks, though no direct causal link is confirmed.

Naturally, this advisory has liberal corners of social media up in arms, with some pregnant women posting defiant videos of themselves taking Tylenol as a stand against what they call an “attack on women.”

Kenvue, Tylenol’s maker, insists it’s still the safest pain reliever for pregnant women when needed. But past posts from Tylenol’s own X account admitted the drug wasn’t tested for pregnancy use, muddying the waters further.

British Health Secretary Wes Streeting chimed in, urging folks to “not pay attention” to the U.S. advisory, claiming there’s “no evidence” to back it up. That’s a sharp rebuke, but it overlooks the FDA’s cautious steps toward transparency.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune, a Republican from South Dakota, countered that he’s “very concerned” about public trust, stressing decisions must be “grounded in science.” Back to Stevens, her impeachment push is framed as a stand for Michiganders, with her declaring, “He’s making Michiganders unhealthy and unsafe.”

It’s a punchy soundbite, but one wonders if this is more about scoring points for her Senate run than solving health care woes. After all, impeachment is a high bar, and the specifics of Kennedy’s alleged missteps remain more rhetoric than roadmap.
