Trump DOJ redirects transgender grants to bolster law enforcement

 May 18, 2025

President Donald Trump’s Justice Department just dropped a bombshell, yanking $811 million from grants tied to transgender ideology and diversity programs. This bold move redirects taxpayer dollars to fortify law enforcement, a clear signal that the administration prioritizes public safety over progressive pet projects.

The Daily Wire reported that the Department of Justice is reallocating funds originally awarded to non-governmental groups pushing transgender causes and diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, channeling them instead to combat violent crime and support victims of trafficking and sexual assault.

Documents uncovered by The Daily Wire lay bare the shift, which aligns with Trump’s pledge to purge ideological spending from government budgets. No more blank checks for causes that don’t serve the broader public.

Under President Joe Biden’s watch, the Justice Department targeted Americans for their faith, peaceful pro-life protests, or resistance to explicit gender ideology in schools.

Trump’s team is flipping the script, focusing on law enforcement coordination and protecting vulnerable populations like children and trafficking victims. Actions, it seems, do have consequences.

Grants Slashed, Appeals Offered

The Justice Department slashed $811 million in grants, prompting legacy media to clutch their pearls over potential impacts on hate crime victims and school safety.

But the department’s response, first reported by The Daily Wire, clarifies that most terminated grants went to non-profits, not state or local governments. This precision cut avoids gutting essential public services while targeting ideological fluff.

Grant recipients aren’t entirely out of luck—they have 30 days to appeal terminations, and successful appeals will see funding restored. Reuters reports some grants have already been reinstated, showing the process isn’t a guillotine but a scalpel. Still, the message is clear: taxpayer money should serve taxpayers, not agendas.

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley fired off a letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi, probing the grant review and appeals process.

The Justice Department assured Grassley that appeals deemed valid would lead to the swift reinstatement of awards. Transparency in action—something the previous administration wasn’t exactly famous for.

A peek at the terminated grants reveals why they were on the chopping block. The Diversity Center of Oklahoma pocketed $200,000 to fund “culturally responsive services” like gender-affirming care for Black transgender women in Oklahoma City. Sounds noble, but when public safety is underfunded, these niche projects feel like a misfire.

Over $700,000 went to F.O.R.G.E. INC. in Wisconsin for 23 listening sessions to address violence against trans-identifying individuals, particularly trans women of color. Listening is great, but $700,000 for talk shops while violent crime surges? That’s a tough sell to the average American.

Then there’s the $50,000 to Civic Heart Community Services in Texas for a youth-led anti-gun violence mural and a creative arts event. Art’s nice, but when police departments are strapped for cash, murals won’t stop bullets. These grants highlight a disconnect between progressive priorities and real-world needs.

Transgender Prison Policies Scrutinized

In 2022, Washington State’s Department of Corrections scored $250,000 to promote transgenderism in prisons, including hiring a Transgender Housing and Program Manager.

The grant aimed to “foster an environment that promotes sexual safety” for transgender inmates, per the state’s own words. Noble in theory, but reality paints a darker picture.

A lawsuit filed by female inmate Mozzy Clark in December 2024 alleges she was repeatedly sexually assaulted by Christopher Scott Williams, a 6-foot-4-inch biological male with a violent history, housed in a women’s prison after identifying as female. Promoting “sexual safety” sounds hollow when policies put women at risk. The grant’s noble intent doesn’t survive contact with reality.

Williams isn’t an isolated case—hundreds of biological males identifying as women have been transferred to women’s prisons nationwide, including a two-time baby killer in California and a Wisconsin man who raped his daughter. These cases underscore the dangers of prioritizing ideology over safety. Trump’s DOJ is right to pull the plug on funding such experiments.

The reallocated $811 million will now bolster law enforcement operations, enhance coordination, and protect victims of trafficking and sexual assault. Former grant recipients won’t have to repay funds already spent, but future payouts are off the table. It’s a pragmatic move that respects past commitments while redirecting future resources to where they’re needed most.
