Trump continuing purge of leftist federal officials appointed by Joe Biden

 May 11, 2025

President Donald Trump is cleaning house, and Democrats are crying foul. Late Thursday night, May 8, 2025, Trump fired Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) Commissioners Richard Trumka Jr. and Mary Boyle, both Biden appointees, via a curt email. The move sent shockwaves through the swamp, with leftists clutching pearls over “executive overreach.”

The Washington Examiner reported that Trump’s latest purge targeted Democratic commissioners across independent agencies, a bold flex of executive muscle. Earlier that week, on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, he ousted Alvin Brown, vice chairman of the National Transportation Safety Board.

By Thursday afternoon, Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden, a 2016 appointee, was also shown the door. This isn’t Trump’s first rodeo—back in March 2025, he fired Federal Trade Commission commissioners Alvaro Bedoya and Rebecca Kelly Slaughter, both Democrats.

Those terminations sparked accusations of “illegal” moves, with the ousted duo whining about their unfinished terms. Sorry, folks, but elections have consequences.

Firings Spark Legal Firestorm

The fired commissioners aren’t going quietly—nearly 200 lawsuits have piled up since January 2025 to thwart Trump’s agenda. As of May 9, 2025, 79 suits blocked his actions, 46 sided with him, and 75 are still pending, per the Associated Press. The left’s legal tantrums are as predictable as a D.C. traffic jam.

Richard Trumka Jr., one of the sacked CPSC commissioners, vowed to fight, claiming, “Our removals are the first step in eliminating the CPSC.”

Nice try, but protecting consumers doesn’t mean coddling bureaucrats. Trump’s team insists he’s well within his legal rights to hire and fire as he sees fit.

Alex Hoehn-Saric, another CPSC commissioner, didn’t get a pink slip but found himself locked out by acting chairman Peter Feldman on May 9, 2025. “Feldman locked me out of the agency,” Hoehn-Saric griped. Sounds like someone’s just enforcing the boss’s orders.

Democratic lawmakers, predictably, are rallying behind the ousted officials, vowing to resist Trump’s “shrink-the-government” push.

Sen. Richard Blumenthal huffed, “Congress very specifically made this agency independent.” Independent doesn’t mean untouchable, senator—Trump’s the head of the executive branch, not a figurehead.

Blumenthal doubled down, warning, “What it will mean is infant deaths, small children at risk.” Scaremongering about kids to prop up bloated agencies? That’s peak Democrat playbook, and voters aren’t buying the hysteria.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt laid it out plain: “It’s a federal agency in which branch? The Executive Branch.” She’s right—Trump’s the boss, and he gets to call the shots. The left’s obsession with “independence” just masks their fear of accountability.

Trump’s Team Defends Moves

Deputy White House chief of staff Stephen Miller backed the firings, stressing performance over tenure. “We don’t just let people stay in their jobs just because they were always there,” Miller said. Finally, someone’s prioritizing results over job security for bureaucrats.

Miller, a parent himself, added, “There’s been lots of concerns… about product safety in this country.” If the CPSC isn’t cutting it, why keep the same old faces? Trump is hiring the best, not the most entrenched.

A top Republican Hill aide scoffed at the outrage, saying, “Cry harder.” The aide’s got a point—voters didn’t send Trump back to Washington to tiptoe around overpaid pencil-pushers. The MAGA base is cheering, not weeping.

Fired officials, backed by Democrats, are gearing up for court battles to challenge Trump’s authority. Trumka and Hoehn-Saric joined lawmakers on a May 9, 2025, call with reporters, blasting the terminations. Their sob story won’t sway a president focused on results.

Sen. Blumenthal called Trump’s “unitary” executive theory a “fantastical contraction.” Translation: he’s mad that the president’s leading. The left’s ivory-tower arguments won’t stop Trump from reshaping agencies to serve Americans, not elites.
