Ashley Biden’s charity, Women’s Wellness Spa(ce), stands accused of hiding $500,000 in donations from the IRS. The Philadelphia-based trauma recovery center, launched in 2023, allegedly failed to report major grants in its tax filings. A watchdog group has now called for a federal audit to probe the discrepancies.
The Washington Free Beacon reported that in 2023, during Joe Biden’s presidency, Ashley Biden founded Women’s Wellness Spa(ce) to aid women facing mental health struggles.
The charity, equipped with infrared saunas, received $500,000 in seed funding. However, its 2023 tax filings tell a different story.
The charity’s Form 990 reported only $170,296 in total contributions for 2023. It claimed no single source donated more than $5,000. Ashley Biden, as president, signed the filing under penalty of perjury.
The National Legal and Policy Center, led by attorney Paul Kamenar, filed a complaint with the IRS on Monday. The complaint alleges Women’s Wellness Spa(ce) violated IRS rules by not disclosing $500,000 in grants. Kamenar questioned what other contributions the charity might be concealing.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s Archewell Foundation reported giving $250,000 to the charity in 2023. The Silicon Valley Community Foundation also reported a $250,000 grant. These contributions, totaling $500,000, were absent from the charity’s tax filings.
The charity uses the accrual accounting method, which requires reporting grants when pledged, not when received. Greg Mangasarian, the charity’s accountant, claimed only $150,000 of the pledged $500,000 was received in 2023. He said the remaining balance would be reported in 2024.
If the IRS confirms errors in the 2023 tax return, Ashley Biden could face fines. The complaint urges an audit to determine if other grants were unreported. It also seeks possible sanctions against Biden for the alleged violations.
This is not the first scrutiny of Women’s Wellness Spa(ce). In March, Kamenar filed another IRS complaint against the charity. He alleged Ashley Biden overstated her working hours and omitted board members from the 2023 tax return.
The Biden family has faced other tax-related controversies. Hunter Biden, Ashley’s brother, pleaded guilty in September to evading $1.4 million in taxes from 2016 to 2019. He also improperly claimed payments to prostitutes and sex clubs as business expenses during the 2010s.
Joe Biden issued a blanket pardon for Hunter, covering any crimes since 2014. The pardon erased Hunter’s tax-related charges. Similar pardons were granted to Joe Biden’s brothers, James and Francis, his sister, Valerie, and their spouses.
Ashley Biden, however, received no such pardon from her father. This leaves her exposed to potential IRS penalties. The lack of a pardon for Ashley has sparked questions about family dynamics.
Meghan Markle, a close ally of Joe Biden’s sister, Valerie Biden Owens, was a vocal supporter of Biden’s election. Her Archewell Foundation’s $250,000 donation to Women’s Wellness Spa(ce) drew scrutiny.
The Margaret Thatcher Center for Freedom suggested in February that the grant might have been an attempt to curry favor with Joe Biden.
Neither Archewell nor the Silicon Valley Community Foundation responded to inquiries about their grants. The silence fuels speculation about the handling of the funds. The IRS complaint has intensified calls for transparency from the charity.
Conservatives have long warned about the Biden family’s questionable financial dealings. This latest complaint against Ashley Biden’s charity reinforces concerns about accountability. The public awaits the IRS’s response to determine if justice will be served.
