Aber, who was 43 years old, had served in her position since being appointed by President Biden in 2021. She held the role until her untimely death in 2025.

Upon receiving a report of an unresponsive woman, the Alexandria Police Department discovered Aber deceased at her residence.

The exact cause and manner of her death have yet to be determined and are under active investigation by local authorities.

High-profile cases marked Aber's legal legacy

During her tenure as U.S. Attorney, Aber was known for securing high-profile convictions that significantly impacted both national and international affairs.

Among her most notable accomplishments was the conviction of Siemens Energy in a case of corporate espionage against major competitors General Electric and Mitsubishi.

Siemens Energy faced a heavy penalty for its illicit activities, ultimately being fined $104 million due to Aber’s rigorous prosecution efforts.

Furthermore, Aber achieved a landmark case win when ex-CIA analyst Asif Rahman, involved in leaking classified documents that delayed a potential Israeli airstrike on Tehran, pleaded guilty under her watch.

Another significant case under Aber’s leadership was against Eleview International Inc., which was accused of illegally shipping sensitive American technology to Russia. This case highlighted the complexities of international technology and security laws.

Only two months before her passing, Aber had managed to secure indictments against Russian nationals Sergey Ivanov and Timur Shakhmametov.

They were charged with overseeing a large-scale online money laundering operation, showcasing Aber's commitment to cracking down on international financial crimes.

Her work extended beyond her office to the community through her involvement with Ceasefire Virginia. This organization focuses on reducing violent crime across the state, credited with saving numerous lives.
