In Brownsville, Texas, police are reportedly investigating a fatal crash, where at least seven people died and several others sustained various injuries. The deadly crash happened near a homeless shelter that caters to migrants who have been released by Border Patrol officials. Police believe the crash may have been intentional at this time.

On Sunday shortly after 8:30 a.m., at a bus stop near the intersection of Minnesota Road and Houston Road, an SUV traveling at a high rate of speed struck a group of people waiting there. View of the security video shows the intensity of the crash when the driver plowed through the group of pedestrians waiting for the bus. Initial information indicates the group of people were from the Ozanam Shelter, that were waiting at the bus stop at the time.

Nearby Ozanam Shelter, is a long-standing institution in Brownsville that provides shelter and services to the homeless community. In recent months, the shelter has also been providing services to illegal migrants that have been arriving in the area.

The driver of the SUV is currently in police custody, and is being held on reckless endangerment charges, according to authorities. Depending on the results of the investigation, a police spokesman said the charges could be upgraded, because there are several indicators that the crash was intentional. The investigation is ongoing.
