On Thursday, in an attempt to bar former President Donald Trump, from running for president in 2024, forty-one House Democrats filed a bill to that effect, citing section 3 of the 14th Amendment.
Rep. David Cicilline (D-RI) wrote in a press release on his site-
“Donald Trump very clearly engaged in an insurrection on January 6, 2021 with the intention of overturning the lawful and fair results of the 2020 election. You don’t get to lead a government you tried to destroy,” …
“Even Mitch McConnell admits that Trump bears responsibility, saying on the Senate floor that ‘[t]here’s no question, none, that President Trump is practically and morally responsible for provoking the events of the day.’ The 14th Amendment makes clear that based on his past behavior, Donald Trump is disqualified from ever holding federal office again and, under Section 5, Congress has the power to pass legislation to implement this prohibition.”

Among those 41 Democrats seeking to deprive Trump of 2024 eligibility, are Democratic radicals- Ted Lieu (D-CA), Reps. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX), Pramila Jayapal (D-WA), Jamaal Bowman (D-NY), and Rashida Tlaib (D-M).
The portion of the Amendment to the Constitution they are citing is, Section 3 of the 14 Amendment. It states-
“No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice-President… who, having previously taken an oath… shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. But Congress may by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability.”

To disqualify Trump from seeking office, Democrats are likely focusing on the words “insurrection or rebellion,” tied to the January 6 White House disruption. However, such disqualification demands evidence that Trump committed “insurrection or rebellion” and that he even qualifies under the amendment, which does not include elected presidents.
Additionally, Democrats have failed to produce qualifying evidence, so far that Trump has committed any crime. Currently the Justice Department is reportedly investigating Trump’s January 6 actions, as related to a criminal probe in an alleged effort to question the 2020 election result. Seemingly, the search goes on.
Apparently, in an effort to be poised to spring, these 41 Democrats are awaiting some assistance from Biden’s DOJ, to assist them in the substantiation of their emotional accusations against the former president. Having produced nothing but those they charged with contempt, the special January 6th Committee yielded no firm evidence that Trump was criminally at fault. In short, they found no evidence to charge him with any “insurrection or rebellion”.
It should be interesting to see what the DOJ turns up. Never in the history of America, has anyone been more hated and feared by the Democrats than Trump. That they have wasted tax-payers money and time to find something, anything, to charge him with, is beyond the pale.
These Democrats should be instead, working to see that America’s real security issues, such as our nations southern border being invaded and attacked by the Mexican Drug Cartels, and our nations compromised security, as it relates to China’s technical/internet equipment, that has still not been removed/ replaced across our nation - is a priority. As someone once said, Democrats prefer to focus on “straining at gnats and swallowing elephants”.
